Just thought I'd break up the NFL talk for a quick look at last night's college football action:
#14 Boise State 19 #16 Oregon 8
The score looks more like an out of hand baseball game than a matchup of two prolific offenses, but I'm sure Boise State isn't too upset about the lack of style points. What may concern the Broncos, however, is their kicker's inability to hit a field goal from the left hash, as well as their long snapper's inability to snap long. Oregon should be concerned about their season, as they were completely outplayed by a team they had supposedly been thinking about all offseason. Also, their starting running back may have a being-an-asshole problem.
#19 Utah 35 Utah State 17
The little blurb under the ESPN scoreboard says "Cain, Asiata roll No. 19 Utah to 15th straight win." Anyone who took Utah (-20.5) would appreciate it if ESPN changed their definition of "roll."
South Carolina 7 NC State 3
Remember when Steve Spurrier was considered an offensive genius? No? Well, remember when Sports Illustrated picked NC State to finish second in the ACC Atlantic? So who's credibility does this loss hurt more, SI, or the ACC Atlantic?
Bowling Green 31 Troy 14
The first big upset of the year, Troy reminds us that the best team from the Sun Belt Conference is still a team from the Sun Belt Conference.
Villanova 27 Temple 24
Not wanting the MAC to get too much respect following Bowling Green's win over Troy, Temple quickly embarrasses themselves losing to FCS school and cross-town rivals Villanova on a last second field goal.
Kent State 18 Coastal Carolina 0
SEE THAT TEMPLE! THAT'S HOW YOU TAKE CARE OF BUSINESS AGAINST AN FCS SCHOOL!
North Texas 20 Ball State 10
Nate Davis, you are sorely missed. Ball State, who at a point last year were considered BCS busters, lost to a team that won a single game last season and gave up 77 points to Rice. Despite Bowling Green, the MAC is already dropping below the Sun Belt in the race for worst conference in the land.
Iowa State 34 N. Dakota State 17
This is why schools schedule FCS teams: to end 10-game losing streaks.
Indiana 19 E. Kentucky 13
When I saw this game on the schedule, I wondered why Indiana couldn't have scheduled Western Kentucky, who have at least been a provisional FBS school for two years (welcome to the big leagues full-time, Hilltoppers!) . Now I get it. Western Kentucky would have killed the Hoosiers.
